Slayer is a skill that allows players to kill monsters which are often otherwise immune to damage. Players get a Slayer task from one of five Slayer Masters, and players gain Slayer experience for killing monsters that they are assigned. Slayer experience is granted in addition to regular combat experience.

If more than one person is fighting the same monster then the experience is potentially divided with half of the experience going to the person who does the most damage and the other half going to whoever gets the last hit (if that person has the same task). If a player does the most damage and gets the last hit that player still gets the full experience in the end, however.

Slayer can be profitable since many Slayer assignments drop valuable items, such as the Abyssal Demons dropping whips, Dust Devils dropping a Dragon Chainbody, and other monsters that drop a variety of unidentified herbs. Generally, the stronger the monster, the more valuable its drops will be. Many Slayer monsters usually drop herbs and other useful, valuable items like runes, and clue scrolls, giving players an opportunity to advance such difficult-to-train skills as Herblore.

Slayer masters give you a slayer task whenever you are in need of something new to slay. For beginners Turael is the best to start with as he assigns low-levelled slayer tasks, and then the others can come in as you progress in slayer and combat levels.

Slayer equipment can be bought from any Slayer Shop and based upon your slayer level can be worn. Generally they are used to defend yourself against a certain monster, or defeat them easier. Slayer equipment can also be traded amongst players.
